Online Casino Tournaments

Casino tournaments are an important part of playing online casinos. Not only do they offer loads of cash prizes, they are a change of pace to the ordinary gambling experience, and all of us have a competitive streak. Online tournaments allow us to go head to head with other players and show off our skills. The players that climb their way to the top of the leaderboard walk away with large cash prizes in special events, and daily freerolls give players a chance to win a substantial prize without risking any money. So which online tournaments are the worth playing? Well almost all major online casinos offer a tournament lobby; filled with daily, weekly and monthly tournaments. Here are some tips players can use to pick the right tournament for them.

Many tournaments require a buy-in fee, so the player must ask themselves are the prizes worth the investment? They entry fees are worth paying if the top players are the leaderboard are rewarded, not just the first place winner. Multi-winner tournaments usually pay the first 20 or more places, especially in large prize pool tournament. Vegas Technology tournaments, for example, will host large six figure prize pool tournaments that award many prizes throughout the event. These competitions are well worth the small entry fee, as the return is much more than the buy-in cost, in most cases.
Re-buys or continues are offered in buy-in tournaments across the Vegas Technology and Microgaming network, and this can mean two different things. Players are able to either continue to play and try to make their way to the top paying places, or they can buy their way to the top by purchasing unlimited re-buys. Some players appreciate the continues and re-buys while others wish they didn’t exist. They do help players that are doing well to continue on the path of victory, however all bankrolls are different and not every player can afford to keep buying into the competition.

Determine the payout vs. investment risk. The prize pool helps players do so, but it could cloud judgment as the prize pool is usually shared among winners. The more player going after the prize pool, the less the top prizes payout in many cases. This is not always the case, but is usually how it works. Before buying into a tournament look for the details of how many players are allowed, and how many have already registered. This could help you make your decision on whether to opt in or not.

How much is first prize worth? Is it a guaranteed amount? What about the other paying places? If these questions are easily answered and there is a guaranteed prize amount for the winning places, the risk may be worth taking; especially if the prizes are of substantial amount. Players should always remember that prize pools are almost always shared, so don’t let the big numbers get you overly excited. There are many high paying online tournaments available, but 99% of the time the large prize isn’t paid to one player, up to 100 players over a course of a month could win their share. Read the fine print on any tournament you are interested in taking part in, before paying any entry fee.

Watch out for aggressive players. These players are the ones that will buy their way to first place. These players are not interested in secondary prizes and some may even spend more on continues and re-buys than the top prize pays. This is more of an ego boost than anything, and any players with sense about them might see this as silly. However; these players do exist and it’s best to avoid them if possible. Of course, there is not a sure way to do this, but take a look at the player list before registering and if you recognize one of these players on the list; perhaps another tournament is better for you.
Tournaments can be a very exciting and profitable way of playing casino games for real money. Look for one that suits your needs the best and have fun. Tournaments are offered at Vegas Technology and Realtime Gaming casinos, where USA players are accepted. Players can also find network tournaments at Microgaming powered online casinos; USA players are not accepted.
